about
Timothy J Allen had the fortune of playing a week's worth of concerts with Lawrence D. "Butch" Morris at Brooklyn's Zebulon back in 2006. Allen was blown away by Morris' ability to shape the direction the band's music would take in real time using a series of hand and baton gestures. Morris leads his orchestra through improvisations that can change at his own whims, with results that can often range from delicate to cacophonous. Morris' "conduction" remains a huge influence on Allen.
